Sich aus sehen- to seem, to appear (outward)

Things dont always appear as they are, a very over used phrase. A clische as they call it. Appeareances are they way we define ourselves as human beings, we buy diffrent clothing, listen to diffrent music, change our personalities in hopes that we may be pleasing for others to see, to be around. The guises that we put on every morning as we prepare ourselves for the day, prepare ourselves to confront our co-workers, our friends, are the things that we hide behind, so that other may find us fun, energetic; it makes us look like great people.

Through my career at BLS i have found that every student in our school has many different faces. For every class, every teacher, we have a different mask to show, to please them, to get a good grade. Sometimes I wonder if I too have been in the maskqueraide, changing my faces to accomodate my surroundings. Some praise us for our ability to change ourselves to mold into the circumstances we are handed, and our ablility to not only adapt but to strive. Many say it is wrong to compromise your own beliefs to climb the ladder of success, but we do it anyway.

Beethoven, the great musical composer, perhaps the greatest of all time, once placed a mask over his face as well. He did it by nessecity, he needed money, and people payed him to create, and they wanted him to create what they wanted to see, to hear. We students, however have no need to do such a thing, we should not be afraid to declare our voices! We should not mold to what the world wants! The world cannot give us anything that is worth our right to express myself freely, you can think what you want of me but i will not conform to what the world wants.
What do we lose when we act? When we would do anything to get a small reward? What do we compromise?

I feel that we are blessed to have such a great place where we have the right to express ourselves, but nontheless, I feel that many times, our freedom to express, our 1st amendment rights can get us into trouble. As you know, there are 6 billiion people living on our great planet, each with their own brains, and own opinions, not everyone is going to agree. And when people strongly disagree, they tend to have a quarrell and if the quarrell is not resolved then we have tension and bad blood.

You are bound to find someone that is going to disagree with you; on anything from polatics to how you go about your everyday life. Many times we have conflicts with people that are not in agreemnt with us, some are small and some are large. Most people I know avoid confrontations as much as possible, some fight for what they believe in. (Don't get me wrong they are not opposites) But some people would compromise what they believe in to avoid conflict, to avoid losing a friend.

I don't know which one is right, but it all comes down to appearences, how people think of you. When you have a facade on, people do not see the real you, they do not know how you feel or what you think. When people say things that i dont agree with, I disagree with them. Many times it is a friend or family member, but the key is that i have no guise on, i let them know how i feel and what I think, and if they can't accept who I am, then maybe perhaps we never really were friends. Fourtunatlly, all if not most do understand, and accept me as I am.

However, if you hide yourself behind a false image of who you are, people have accepted your disguise as their friend, it will be much harder for them to accept you when you "show you true colors".

Going back to my previouse point, I feel like BLS students, and people in general do try to please other a bit too much, but I feel that we should not do so for our own benefit, but we should do so because we really want to. We must remove all our hardware and show our skin. You might be suprised by what you look like.
